In May 2019, CU Denver's Health + Design Initiative partnered with the Colorado Healthy Places Collaborative to host an event to share and celebrate the final products of the Creating Healthy Places project funded by the Colorado Health Foundation.
The symposium featured work by students working to integrate health into planning and designing community places. A series of final products were showcased, including the Creating Healthy Places Guidebook, the GuideBox to Healthy Places, and a new pair of websites to support on-going work related to health and the built environment.
Keynote addresses were provided by planning and design experts from New York City and Denver, who shared perspectives on how health considerations are being integrated into practice nationally and locally.

About the Creating Healthy Places Project
The Creating Healthy Places project was a multi-year initiative funded by the Colorado Health Foundation through a grant to the College of Architecture and Planning at CU Denver. The project aimed to transform how health is considered in design and planning education by engaging graduate students in hands-on research and studio work focused on a real community — the Sun Valley neighborhood in west Denver.
Over the course of the project, students in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and urban design worked alongside faculty and community partners to develop design proposals, conduct community surveys, and synthesize research findings into practical tools and guidebooks. The project also established the Colorado Healthy Places Collaborative, a network of organizations committed to creating healthier communities across Colorado.
